after I.L. Caragiale –– Direction: Cristian Ban
Performance of the "Ioan Slavici" Classical Theatre from Arad, hosted within the project Relations.Reactions.Reflections
Performance in Romanian with German surtitles and Hungarian simultaneous translation via headphones.
"A performance that is inspired by Caragiale's lesser-known texts, built on a collated text and assembled by the director, together with the group of actors he worked with.
(...) the director chooses to explore the satirical universe of Caragiale's texts, to create an aspatial and timeless place where the planes of the past and the present intertwine and form a neutral zone in which the playwright's discourse is reconditioned and updated to illustrate the similarities of mentalities which, although belonging to different coordinates, are found and materialize on the social level. The institutional plane and the family plane are the two imaginative dimensions on which the entire performance is based, being shaped in such a way as to be in a continuous relationship of co-dependence: the defining shortcomings of one are justified by the other. Cristian Ban preserves the humorous note of the original texts, but at certain moments he outlines them with a subtle dose of tragedy and condemnation of the general situation, but these are revealed subtextually, preserving the compositional complexity, even amplifying it."
