Actress Ida Jarcsek-Gaza was conferred the title of honorary citizen of the Municipality of Timișoara

On 15 January 2024, on the Day of National Culture, actress Ida Jarcsek-Gaza was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Timisoara. Mayor Dominic Fritz was present at the ceremony where several prominent personalities of the city were awarded this title. Mrs. Jarcsek-Gaza's laudatio was delivered by Lucian Vărșăndan, director of the German State Theatre Timișoara.



"A multi-faceted personality, whose grace and dedication have found their consecration in the various aspects of the arts, first as an actress, then as a teacher, theatre director and playwright, Ida Jarcsek-Gaza still represents today, more than 53 years after her debut on the stage of the German State Theatre, a presence that is as appreciated as it is captivating."


A leading personality of the theatre scene and also of German culture in Romania, Ida Jarcsek-Gaza has been inextricably linked for over half a century to the destiny of the German State Theatre, where she began her work immediately after graduating from the German section of the Institute of Theatre and Film Arts (IATC) Bucharest.


She has played numerous roles, including Gretchen in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Urfaust, Yvette in Bertolt Brecht's Mutter Courage (Anna Fierling and her children), Bernarda Alba in Federico García Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba, Winnie in Samuel Beckett's Happy Days, Mary Tyrone in Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night, Medea in Arpád Göncz's Always the Same Medea and Firs in Anton Pavlovich Chekhov's Cherry Orchard.



From 1992-2003 she was a lecturer at the Department of Acting at the Faculty of Music of the West University of Timisoara. From 2003 to 2007 she was the director of GSTT, paying special attention to new forms of theatrical expression and developing contacts with institutions and artists from the German-speaking world.



Throughout her career she has worked with many important creators, including Clemens Bechtel, Bocsárdi László, Alexander Hausvater, Yuri Kordonsky, Otto Lang, Răzvan Mazilu, Volker Schmidt and Carmen Lidia Vidu. She has appeared in film and television.
