We started rehearsals for "Sidy Thal", a co-production of the German State Theatre Timisoara and the Jewish State Theatre Bucharest, by Thomas Perle and Clemens Bechtel, directed by Clemens Bechtel. The show, which will premiere on 4 November 2023, is about the anti-Semitic attack that took place in the current building of the Romanian National Opera and theatres in Timișoara during the tour of the famous actress of that era, Sidy Thal.


Sidy Thal" will bring together actors from both troupes, will be performed in Yiddish, German and Romanian and will be surtitled in Romanian and English. It will be the first such close collaboration between two of Romania's leading theatre institutions working in national minority languages.


The production of the show was accompanied by research on the fate of the actress Sidy Thal and the history of the Jewish community in our country. The script was written by Thomas Perle, one of the most appreciated young voices in German-speaking drama, who himself comes from a family with German and Hungarian roots in Maramures. He was joined in this endeavour by the German director Clemens Bechtel and Maria Mădălina Irimia, from the Centre for the Study of Jewish History in Romania "Wilhelm Filderman".
