The exhibition "Helmut Stürmer. Décor / Costume / Design", part of the FNT programme, will also contain set elements from the performances of the German State Theatre Timișoara

Between 7 and 29 November 2022 there will take place the exhibition "Helmut Stürmer. Decor/Costum/Desen", a fresco of the professional career of the artist Helmut Stürmer, set designer for theatre, opera and film, costume designer and light designer. The opening will take place at 4 PM at ARCUB, Café Hall, Arcelor Hall and Library Hall.

The exhibition will include a series of over 50 creations signed by Helmut Stürmer, ranging from models of performances and scenographic objects and sets, some of them also from the German Theatre performances he worked on - Fuchsiada (directed by: Silviu Purcărete) and The Incredible and Sad Story of the Candid Eréndira and Her Soulless Grandmother (directed by Yuri Kordonsky), as well as original photographs, albums and sketches, and a number of works that are part of the artist's personal collection.

The exhibition can be visited from 7 to 29 November 2022, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 12.00 to 20.00, at ARCUB - Gabroveni Inn - Cafeteria Hall, Arcelor Hall and Bookshop Hall. On Mondays, the exhibition is closed, except on Monday 7 November.

Helmut Stürmer was born in Timișoara and in 1967 he completed his studies at the Nicolae Grigorescu Academy of Art in Bucharest. He worked for almost a decade as a set designer at the theatre in Sibiu and at the Bulandra theatre in Bucharest, as well as at the theatres in Brasov, Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara. In addition to this activity, he has also designed the sets for several films, including "The Stone Wedding" by Mircea Veroiu and Dan Pița, and "Tănase Scatiu" by Dan Pița.

At the same time, he was making a name for himself abroad. In 1971 and 1975 he collaborated with the Cologne Municipal Theatre and created the sets for productions of texts by Georges Feydeau and Lew Tolstoy/Heinrich Böll. He also collaborates with the Kammerspiele in Munich and the Old Tote Theatre in Sydney. In 1977 he left Romania and settled in Germany. He collaborates with many theatres in different European countries; after the fall of communism he often returns to Romania, where he collaborates again with theatres and is honoured with numerous awards.
