The German Theatre awaits you at its pefromances in 2023

30 December 2022

The team of the German State Theatre Timisoara wishes all its spectators and theatre lovers a happy and cultural New Year with their loved ones. The coming year, the year of the European Capital of Culture, will be a rich one for the German Theatre's repertoire.

The first premiere is scheduled for 12 January 2022 - TSCHICK. Why We Took the Car, dramatised by Robert Koall after the novel of the same name by Wolfgang Herrndorf. Directed by Irisz Kovacs, the cast includes Robert Bogdanov-Schein, Marc Illich, Alma Diaconu, Ioana Iacob and Alexandru Mihăescu, while the set design is by Clara Ștefana and the dramaturgy by Rudolf Herbert. The music is composed by Adrian Piciorea.

A cool odyssey for young people - the play "TSCHICK. Why We Took the Car" tells the story of Maik (Robert Bogdanov-Schein) and Tschick (Marc Illich), two teenagers who believe there must be a world other than the one they know at home and at school. Maik comes from a German middle-class background, and for his parents the roads have long since parted, even though they still live under the same roof. Maik considers himself an outsider, as does Tschick, whose family moved from Russia to Germany. At first, the only thing the two have in common is a sense of being strangers in a society that makes it difficult for them.

With a stolen car, they decide to flee Berlin and embark on a journey that will become an odyssey. At the end of it is the exploration of reality and self-exploration. They get to know people who do not dedicate their lives to consumption, but who show kindness and solidarity. Maik and Tschick discover freedom, the poetry of the world and friendship for each other. At the same time, Maik experiences for the first time the feeling of love with Isa (Alma Diaconu), a girl of the same age who lives in a garbage dump and is apparently also on the run.

Then, in the middle of the month we expect three more performances of shows from the theatre's repertoire - on 14 January we play God Kurt, after Alberto Moravia, directed by Alexander Hausvater, then on 15 January 2022 - The Cherry Orchard, by A.P. Chekhov, directed by Volker Schmidt, and on 16 January Humans. For Sale, by Carmen Lidia Vidu. January will end with two more performances of TSCHICK. Why I stole the car - on 26 January in Reșița, on the stage of the Western Theatre, and on 31 January back at the German Theatre. Also in January there are three performances (15, 16, 19 January) of The Parallel City: Fabric, a project developed by the Diogene Cultural Association in co-production with the Hungarian State Theatre "Csiky Gergely" and the German State Theatre Timișoara, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, with the support of the New Millennium Reformed Centre and the Timișoara Public Transport Company.

Moreover, until January 8, 2023 you can still visit, free of charge, the photography exhibition of Ovidiu Zimcea, which shows the make-up of the artist Bojita Ilici from the show "The Jungle Book", a production directed by Răzvan Mazilu.

Tickets for the January performances can be purchased at the German Theatre box office, on the German Theatre website (https://www.teatrulgerman.ro/ro/), or from the Entertix network.

We look forward to seeing you at the theatre in 2023!
