The team of the German Theatre wishes you a happy and peaceful holiday season with your loved ones, and is looking forward to the last performances of 2022, which will take place on 27 and 28 December - The Jungle Book - and then on 30 December - Leonce and Lena.

So, between Christmas and New Year's Eve, we are waiting for you at The Jungle Book, which will have 4 performances - 27 December, 11am and 6pm, 28 December 11am and 6pm. The show, directed by Răzvan Mazilu, sets and costumes by Dragoș Buhagiar, has been revived this year and has recently returned to the theatre's repertoire.

The Jungle Book tells the story of the human cub Mowgli, raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. His friends, the wise panther Bagheera and the funny bear Baloo, warn Mowgli of danger: the tiger Shere Khan has returned. Despite Mowgli's desire to continue living in the jungle, Bagheera and Baloo plan to take him to a nearby village. An adventurous journey ensues, as Mowgli has to face Louie, king of the apes, and the cunning snake Kaa. The musical, directed by Răzvan Mazilu, with a colourful set design by Dragoș Buhagiar, speaks charmingly to children and grown-ups alike about friendship, love, loyalty and the spirit of sacrifice. The show is adapted from Rudyard Kipling's stories, and will not be without hits from the eponymous cartoon, such as The Bare Necessities and I wanna be like you.

Then, on 30 December 2022, starting at 19.30, we perform Leonce and Lena, directed by Niky Wolcz, based on Georg Büchner's text.

For a long time Leonce and Lena, the melancholic comedy about two young people who can't find their place, was considered a failure. It was criticised for its lack of action and lack of classical construction. The fact that one had such difficulties with oneself as Leonce enunciated - "Oh, if only one could manage to be another. Just for a minute." -, the weariness with the world, which makes the two protagonists soulfully related beings, came at odds with the existing image of the human face at the time. Leonce and Lena are two strangers in an irrational world where only irony and self-irony could offer any consolation. Their melancholy stems from a lack of illusions and a rejection of idealistic visions. With his questions about identity and the meaning of life, with the grotesque perception he projects onto the political class, Büchner was far ahead of his time. Only his untimely death prevented him from becoming a Shakespeare of German literature.

What's more, throughout December, until 8 January 2023, you can still visit, free of charge, Ovidiu Zimcea's photography exhibition showing the make-up of the artist Bojita Ilici from the production of The Jungle Book, directed by Răzvan Mazilu.
